CHIRRA Petitions DA
Written by Henry Madakadze

CHIRRA PetitionLast week in Chiredzi on the 13th of June 2012, we saw a peaceful demonstration conducted by the Chiredzi Residents and Ratepayers Association (CHIRRA). The objective was to administer a petition to the District Administrator (DA), Ms Muzenda. The demonstrators marched from Chiredzi Town Council escorted by the ZRP. CHIRRA clearly outlined that the demonstration was completely non-political and that it was meant to address burning issues from the residents of Chiredzi town. Speakers took turns to deliberate the areas of concern.

The issue of service delivery took priority. The Chairperson of CHIRRA voiced his concern regarding our water supply. He voiced that water shortages could lead to a lot of problems like Cholera and other waterborne diseases. He further explained that if a Cholera outbreak was to hit Chiredzi, many people would be affected. The health of the general public was said to be in great danger.

Next in line was the issue of Chiredzi Town Council worker salaries:

Chiredzi Lions Aid Hospital

Chiredzi Hospital DonationChiredzi Lions Club continues to work hard to improve the lives of the less fortunate in our community. Recently they donated 17 blankets to the male ward at Chiredzi District Hospital. The male ward was identified as being the most in need of assistance at this present moment. Although a lot still needs to be done, it is inspiring to know that people are able to reach out to others even when things are very difficult.

Lions Help Orphans

Chingele Orphanage DonationLast week Lions Club of Chiredzi made a donation to Chingele Orphanage which is run under the auspices of Life Sowing Ministries. The Chingele Children's Home houses around 60 adored children. Although they are without mothers and fathers, they are loved and nurtured, providing them with a home-like environment in which to thrive. The home has a large room where the village elders and family members can meet through the week and interact with the children.

Due to the wet weather surrounding Chiredzi areas, the Lion members opted to hand over the 10 blankets, 100kgs maize meal and some items of clothing to the Director at Life Sowing Ministries on behalf of the children.

Lions Club of Chiredzi is one of the service clubs under the International Association of Lions Clubs, which has over 1.5 million members worldwide. They are fully voluntary and with a mandate to extend a helping hand to those in need in their communities.

Proactive Action

As we all prepare to take some time off from our hectic lives, consider the impact you have made on the environment. Have you taken more than you have put back?

With the lovely rain we've been having lately in Chiredzi, many people are taking some time out to work in their garden. Gardening has many benefits. The most obvious being exercise, and then of course the pure joy of watching what you have sowed grow, whether it is vegetables, the lawn or a tree. Be part of the change you want to see.

May you all have a beautiful break over Christmas and be refreshed for 2012.

Hippo FC Awards 2011

Player of the Year CertificateAt the end of each football season, Hippo FC celebrates its many achievements. This year was no different. The annual Hippo FC Chairman's Awards function was held on Sunday, 11th December 2011 at the Polo Crosse Club in Hippo Valley Estates.

This is an opportunity for the Hippo FC team, players, executives, loyal fans, sponsors and invited guests to come together and recognise those that excelled and the achievements of the team. This year Hippo FC decisively won the Sylvia Dube Trophy but undeservedly came second in the first division, (despite having scored the most goals).

The evening also saw the launch of the official club calendar for 2012. This limited edition collectable is now on sale and is a must for every football fan. Designed by EWAY Chiredzi, the calendar is already being talked about and is very much in demand.
