Lowveld Show

The annual Lowveld Show has a long, distinguished heritage.

In 1966 the Lions Club of Chiredzi established the first Lowveld Agricultural Show and Trade Fair. The original location was the 12 acre Hippo Valley Saddle Club Polo-Crosse field, (the site where Chishamiso is now located). For the first three years, the project was entirely run by Lions Club. In 1966 there were 21 exhibitors, in 1967 there were 28 exhibitors and in 1968 there were 40 exhibitors and approximately 3000 visitors.

The Show was then handed over to a committee which represented various organisations throughout the Lowveld and it continued to grow—the existing site was quickly becoming too small. Unfortunately, a few years later, Hippo Valley Estates wanted to use the grounds for the development of Chishamiso and the Show ceased to exist.

In 1985 Hippo Valley Estates allocated Lions the current venue for the Show. A new committee was formed in record time and a Show was held in August the same year. This larger, sixty acre site, has allowed the construction of many permanent exhibition stands and is known as Chiredzi Show Grounds. Through our economic difficulties, the show ran until 2006. Once again Lions Club together with the community were tasked with resurrecting the Show in 2009. Ever since, the current committee has taken the Show from strength to strength.

• Friday - Traders day.
• Saturday - The fun starts with a procession and the day ends with fireworks:
  
  • Senior Drummies will march to Chiredzi Show Grounds starting from Chitsanga Hall at 9:30am. Proceeding down Lion Drive, into Masasa Drive to Marula Drive, they will be joined by the Little Drummies at TM Supermarket. The procession will then continue into Inyathi Road and on to the Show Grounds.
• Sunday - Gates open at 8am.
