Hippo Hockey Back with a Bang as Huletts Sneeze

Written by Pritchard Matambo

Hippo vs Kings Score BoardThe 2013 National hockey league commenced on the 13/14th of April 2013 and the defending Champions were in no mood for mercy as they continued with their unbeaten run record. However, it was not the same for their counterparts, Huletts, as they agonisingly lost their first game before redeeming their lost pride in their encounter with Kings.

Hippo resumed their first league game against Skies, who are currently the Bulawayo Champions, and showed no signs of weary as they paraded a blended type of hockey which left their opponents with no clue. The Hippos proved beyond any doubt that their remarkable performance during the Africa Cup of Club Championship was not a fluke as they went on to silence the Bulawayo champions by a massive 8-0 score line. The Hippo Coach was impressed by his team's performance and confirmed that he is now working towards winning the League and is optimistic that they will earn a medal on the African continent which they previously missed in a nail biting penalty flick to the Ghanaian champions.

They went on to windup their weekend league games with an in creditable 15-1 massacre of Kings Hockey club in a one sided encounter. The Zimbabwean champions continued to cause havoc in the Zimbabwean league and if they maintain the same growth rate, they will soon become the African powerhouse.

Hullets HockeyHippo arch rivals, Huletts, failed to live up to their 2012 performance when they succumbed to a 5-1 loss to Rams on their opening game at Khumalo hockey stadium on the same weekend. The 2012 National League second placed failed to deliver the same form that earned them a sole representation on the African continent. They lacked cohesion in the midfield and the defence was porous. The once lethal strikers were blunt and failed to create tactful attacks hence adding to their misery.

Huletts went on to rediscover their form the following day when they pounced past Kings Hockey Club to claim their first win in the 2013 National League. Huletts need to maintain a consistence winning formula if they are to reclaim their 2012 status.

The next League games will be played on the 4th and 5th of May 2013 at Khumalo Hockey Stadium.
